Oregon State Parks Proposes New Rules for Drones and Model Aircraft

Oregon State Parks has just released new proposed rules for drones and model aircraft. The proposed rules would enable users to fly freely throughout Oregon State Parks, rather than being restricted to designated “drone zones.” The rules would also create no-fly zones in areas such as campgrounds, wildlife-safe zones, and parking lots. These busy and sensitive areas would remain off limits for the safety and privacy of the people and wildlife in the area.

Public comments can be made to Oregon State Parks until April 7, 2022, at 5 p.m. PST. We encourage our members to voice support for the right to safely fly model aircraft and drones at safe locations throughout state parks. What happens in Oregon could set a precedent for other state parks and recreational areas throughout the country. AMA members have been flying safely and responsibly in the national airspace, including in state and national parks, for decades and we will continue to advocate for our members to continue doing so.
